Easter Island Rises was the directorial debut of veteran documentarian Bill Benenson. This digitally remastered version was originally shot in 1970 and done with the support of The World Monuments Fund. The film focuses on the monumental Moai statues of Easter Island, which have long been surrounded by an air of mystery, and follows the shipment of one of these famous statues to the United States where it went on display at Seagram’s Plaza in New York City.
