Originally aired on PBS in 1975 and now digitally remastered Diamond Rivers is a portrait of Seu Geraldo Santos Da Silva, part of a dying breed of diamond prospectors who still scour the mountain riverbanks of the interior of Bahia, Brazil looking for this rare gemstone. In his eighties, Geraldo continues to prospect as he reflects on the boom-and-bust cycle of this sleepy area he refuses to leave. As Seu Geraldo says “The diamond prospector has no future. He lives only for the day, ah but then again there are some very good days.”
